This view shows the highly textured surface of the sphere, including weathered cracks, folds, and various types of clay that were used. There are so many different textures on this sphere including lines, pock marks, smooth planes, crevices, and even the artist’s fingerprint.

A ROUGH START TO THE YEAR:
This year kicked off with a lot of delays in pottery production due to rainy and cold weather. When it wasn’t too wet to throw, we were occupied with unexpected family events (everyone is fine, thank goodness!). Thankfully, we already had a pretty good stock of raw materials so as soon as Alex could get into the studio to throw, he did.
One of our biggest obstacles so far this year has been inventory. We felt like we were in a good place with our inventory of pottery over the winter, so we didn’t worry too much about creating more pieces until about March. But again, that rainy weather for nearly half the days made it interesting trying to get product made and fired. What we did have in stock we carefully evaluated and picked items to take down to Trox Gallery in Emporia, KS. We were able to finally add some 2D artwork to our collection at Trox. Be sure to check out their store if you are ever driving through the Flint Hills on I-35!
PUSHING THROUGH TO OUR FIRST SHOW:
Now that it is June, we are working hard to get as much pottery ready for our first event of the season. You can find us at Council Oak Park in Council Grove, KS on Sat. June 22nd from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We’ll have our booth with pottery, watercolor paintings, prints, stickers, and all kinds of fun items (like honey pots). We’re very excited, but we are also working hard to get at least two more gas firings in before that date (which is a lot of work and takes a lot of time!).
Be sure to roam around our site as we’ve recently given some areas a makeover and posted new items in the shop. There is also a sale in the shop on some of our original merch. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates, more consistently moving forward!
